Award-winning Jamaican short 'Sweet Rind' to be adapted into a feature

juliemango.tv talks with screenwriter Clinton ‘JR’ Roache about what's next for the multi-award-winning short, his plans to turn it into a feature, and the social and economic climates that breed people like the two main characters in Sweet Rind and how our disconnection from our roots plays a part in that. Watch the interview:

The film follows Elsie, who uses her father’s unfinished church basement to hold scammer Algie, captive in Kingston, Jamaica. Her mission is to take justice into her own hands for Algie’s brutal execution of her sister Pam and her family after she foiled his attempt to extort their father.

Along with 4 other stories, screenwriter Clinton ‘JR’ Roache is working on the feature film adaptation for Sweet Rind, slated to be released in 2022.

Sweet Rind took home the Audience Choice Award and Best Lead Performer for Jamaican actor Sherando Ferril at the 2021 Conch Shell International Film Festival.

’Sweet Rind’ was screened virtually at the 2021 Conch Shell International FIlm Festival.

Correction: throughout the interview, I pronounced Elsie as Elise, apologies y’all.
