Conch Shell International Film Festival lineup features 17 Caribbean filmmakers

Conch Shell Productions announced seventeen short films selected for the upcoming 2021 Conch Shell International Film Fest (CSIFF), being held virtually from May 21 to May 23.

CSIFF’s 3-day online festival celebrates and elevates the voices of seventeen film directors and/or writers from the Caribbean and Caribbean Diaspora. The focus of this year’s selection of film is the story of the ordinary hero/shero whose choices inspire others to awaken the hero within themselves.

Guadeloupe

Plowing the Stars (directed by Wally Fall) – On her way to meet her dad, a woman reflects on her life. Along the way, the country looks empty to her and, slowly, memories of past lives are coming back to her. Is it real? Or is it only a dream?

Jamaica

Fear (directed by Sosiessia Nixon) – John only wants comfort and peace in his own space. Unfortunately, his busy neighbor, seven-year-old Danny, won’t let him have things his way. Danny’s relentless efforts to borrow a toy from John proved fatal.

One Patty (directed by Eugene Williams) – An impatient man enters a patty shop. All he wants is one patty. Instead, he learns a valuable life lesson... the hard way.

Sweet Rind (directed by Andre Wynter) – After kidnapping a scammer, a grieving daughter uses torture as a tool to slowly take revenge and teach him a lesson.

Jelani Ade-Dada: A Celeb’Hair’tion (directed by Chaquillie Elliott & Akeem Anderson) – A black, bantu-knot-headed woman goes for a job interview and is left to question the institutionalization of Afro-Centric hairstyles.

Martinique

Reflexion (directed by Alan Bidard) – When social distancing goes wrong… Reflexion is a story describing the hunger for human connection that we all felt during the global lockdown of 2020.

Trinidad

When the Sun Sets (directed by Ryan Latchmansighn) – A story the centers around two childhood friends that have gone in different path due to unfortunate circumstances. It is a movie that brings the two childhood friends back together as young adults when their social environment and need for one another establishes itself.

United Kingdom

In The Silence (directed British-Jamaican Ethosheia Hylton) – When her partner returns from war a changed man, a young woman must put her own life and career on hold as she attempts to save a once-perfect relationship.

United States

Whirlwind (directed by Damani Pompey) – An Artistic Statement. Concept, Creation, and Direction for multi-disciplinary artist, Synead. It’s an outlet to heal without outside influence. Evolution is afoot.

Only Seen As Three (directed by Haitian-American Caleb Grandoit) – Based on a poem called "Same Ole", the film depicts three stereotypes that African American men are often "only seen" to be, want to be, or able to be.

Paris Blues In Harlem (directed by Haitian-American Nadhege Ptah) – A young woman becomes desperate in her quest to pressure her grandfather to accept a realtor's offer for his financially strained Harlem jazz club.

Pie: Apple of my Eye (directed by Haitian-American Krystal Adams) – A mistreated wife plots revenge when she discovers her husband prefer pies over her cake.

Noisy (directed by Dominican-American Cedric Hill) – Sam gets on the subway to get home. He catches the eye of April. The two of them discover they have way more in common than where they’re heading. Sometimes you need a noisy place to have a quiet conversation.

Remember When The Clowns Came (directed by Peurto-Rican American Tanya Perez) – A documentary featuring Clowns without Borders.

The Rules of Survival (directed by Bajan-American Amando Enzo) – Alias is tricked into a hard life with no way out. When she finds an unlikely sisterhood with Gloria and Felicia, the dream of freedom can become a reality.

Love Stings (directed by Angela Reynoso, written by Puerto- Rican American Juan Ramirez) – Greed. Pride. Betrayal. A love story gone wrong. Pilar Lopez, hires a hitman, Felix, to kill her husband, Mark Lopez.

Genesis (directed by Philip Page) – An animated short film about being creative and loving what you create! Inspired by the book of Genesis.
